Data Analytics: Busting the Big Data Definition!

A decade ago, the term “big data” was used to describe a data set that was too large for traditional database management tools to handle. Today, big data is usually used as a synonym for deep learning and artificial intelligence (AI). But what exactly is big data? In this article—which has been excerpted from my new book Big Data: A Manager’s Guide—I will explore various definitions of big data, including volume, variety and velocity; explain why those definitions matter; and give some examples of how companies are using them in their day-to-day operations.
